We learn that there were people who intended to use the Fire to "make the world a better place." Basically, there was a fight for power and who should have the most and the villains inteded to abuse it. Can you think of something in our world today that reminds you of the Fire (something that everyone wants the "recipe" to so they can be all-powerful or overthrow others?). There are so many acceptable examples here....just be thoughtful and explanatory.

Something in our world today that reminds me of the Archangel’s Fire is fame. Most people want to die being famous fro something. It's not overthrowing others or becoming all powerful but technically you could become all powerful if you get enough money while being famous. But most everybody wants the recipe to become famous.
ReplyDeleteSomething that reminds me of the Fire is Money and Fame. The reason that the Fire reminds me of this is because everyone wants money and to be famous all over the world. To me being famous is for a pacific kind of person. I feel like everyone wants to be famous or have the recipe for being famous because they want everyone to like them. One reason that I think the Fire is like money because everyone wants money. I think the Fire is like money because everyone thinks that it will make them happy and so they all want the recipe. Something that reminds me of the Fire in The Blackthorn Key is Money and being Famous.
ReplyDeleteThroughout the book the Blackthorn Key, we come to find that there is a fight about the recipe on how to make the “Fire.” There is a debate about who should have it to make the world a “better place.” There are many things that the world could benefit from having the recipe too. Though I think that something in our world today that many people would love to have the recipe to is the cure to cancer. In my opinion I think that this would change the world and actually make it a better place. Not only would it save lots of pain and suffering but it would save so many lives. If someone had the recipe to cure cancer I think that they would have a lot of power. I believe that a lot of people would do anything to get it especially for their loved ones. All in all, I think that the cure to cancer is something that the world could use the recipe for.

ReplyDeleteIn our world today, many people want happiness, and a lot of people can’t get that, so it reminds of The Archangels Fire. Many people in the book want the fire because it gives them power to do whatever they want. So today in our world many people want the cure to happiness so they can live a fulfilling life. In my thoughts, happiness is a very important trait to have. With being happy, you’ll have a much better life and you won’t live in regret. To wrap it up, I believe that having the recipe to happiness will help a lot of lives and make the world a joyful place.
Something in our world that reminds me of the fire is confidence. People want the fire because they can get anything they want for being so powerful. Today though, many people lack the confidence to do things. Many I believe, have had the opportunity to fulfill successful careers but they didn't have the confidence to do so. It’s a tough world out there, but there are many ways we can stay true to our gifts and capabilities, and build our confidence. For that, we need support from others who believe in us without fail.
ReplyDeleteIn the book “The Blackthorn Key” there was a fight for power from the fire. The people in the book wanted to use the fire to make the world a better place. Something in the world today that I think would make the world a better place would be to have a cure for cancer. Having a cure for cancer would definitely make the world a better place because tons, and tons of people are suffering from cancer. If there was a cure for cancer it would save many lives and not cause people as much pain. Having a cure for cancer would make people happier and not cost as many lives.
ReplyDeleteIn the book, there is a fight for power. Something in our world today that many people fight over is money, or valuable objects that can be sold to make money. With great amounts of money comes great power, because if the wrong person has it, for example, a person with a corrupt mind, they could use it to bribe people into giving them what they desire. I feel like anyone would be content with becoming rich, but there are many who strive to have millions upon millions of dollars in the bank, and that can alter someone's personality completely because that money hungry person can easily turn into a power hungry freak. Another thing in our world that is similar to the Archangel's Fire in "The Blackthorn Key" is valuable possessions, such as a family heirloom passed down through generations. Families can be torn apart by the greed of someone in them. This has even happened in my family. When my great grandmother, Nancy, passed away a while back, her will declared that her wedding and engagement ring were left to someone in the family, but as to who, I cant recall. Another one of my family members was upset by this statement and thought the rings should go to her, since she was the first grandchild. A small disagreement between these two soon drove them apart and that was the end of it. I believe that money, when in the wrong hands, and greed, are two things in our world today that everyone would like the recipe to, in the case of money, and that everyone already has the recipe to when it comes to greed. These two things can cause problems and fights over power and desire.

This is the question what does everybody want these days.I really think its having a job or earning money.Everyone in high school is fighting for a job so they can get money and pay for collage some students don't care what job it is they just need the money. I think that we need money so bad so we gamble and play on slot machines.Some people also need money so bad that they go and beg for it on the streets.Some people don't have jobs its either they don't wont to get one, they got laid of, fired or even quit.Why so many people get fired or even laid off is because some businesses don't have enough money to pay the people to work for them or don't have enough work for them.All of this leads back to not having money or not having a job.That what I think is a big problem in our world today.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I think is like the Archangel’s Fire, is the stereotypical “perfect life”. We all see famous people on the internet or television shows or magazines living what we label a “perfect life”. But really even T.V stars or famous musicians don’t have perfect lives. There is no such thing as these “perfect lives” we may think we see with famous people. It is unreachable, or impossible, much like the Fire. There are many other ways for someone to have a good life like spending time with family or practicing something you love. Just like in the book, The Blackthorn Key, people can live and progress much better without the image of this “perfect life” in their heads, like Christopher progressed without the Archangel’s Fire.

ReplyDeleteIn our world today there are many different times when people had the power to do something great and became greedy. Just like the Fire people have the chance to do something helpful or hurtful. A time when someone with power became greedy, is when Martin Shkreli the co-founder of MSMB Healthcare raised the price of an HIV pill from $13.50 to $750. This is not the first time he has done this, in May 2014 he raised the price of Thiola, a drug used to treat the rare disease Cystinura from $1.50 to $30 per pill and patients must take 10 to 15 pills per day. Martin Shkreli is using his power for his own personal gain making people pay outrageous prices for something that should not cost that much. Just like the villains in the book who wanted to use the power of the Archangel’s Fire for their own personal gain by, “shaping the world as they see fit.”
Something in our world today that reminds me of the Archangel’s Fire is fame. Most people want to die famous. it is not to over though people. To be famous means to be known as some one that was good. People usually like being famous for the money. Everyone wants to be famous. Most people want the recipe for being famous.

ReplyDeleteFor a recent day version of “ The Fire ” I would have to place my bet on money. The first reason I think this is that people have come to greatly rely on it. For example bribes if someone wants something passed such as a bill or act if they find the right person, as pathetic as it is, they could probably be bribed into voting your way. Not to mention people just throwing it around on stupid stuff like hmm, I think my dog needs five laptops, an x-box, and a 100 inch flat screen T.V. Finally the fact that people are willing to lie, cheat, and kill to get a few pieces of paper with the George Washington’s face on it, what has humanity come to. There are many things that relate to the Fire but for me money comes the closest.
The Archangels fire reminds me a lot about how people want money. Everybody would like more money, because money equals power. If you make a lot of money then you can do things that most people can’t. Most people struggle to get by and become envious when a rich millionaire is able to buy three different houses and be okay. Therefore, people want more money so they are able to flaunt all the things you can buy. In our world, we think that more money equals more power, since more money means more stability and power of others. Money overall is a nice thing but it can’t buy you everything. The Archangel Fire does the same thing to people, since those who wield it have great amounts of power. Like the Archangel's fire money can do good, but it could cause many bad things to happen as well.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading about the Fire and how so many people wanted to “Make the world a better place” by fighting for it power it reminded me of Fame and money. So many people today will do anything to get famous, whether it's the right thing to do or not. They want to be seen in the public eye and be noticed. With fame also comes money, but that's not the only thing people will do to get it. They gamble, commit crimes and steal. People nowadays are obsessed with be famous and rich and it sometimes can change them into a different person when they get that power. That's why fame and money reminded me of the fire.

ReplyDeleteor 1st Grade when you use to brag about having a dollar. I remember when I was in those grades we would all have a competition to see who could have enough money by the end of the month. We were basically fighting for power, and the person who won was the "cool kid" I guess you would call it. People nowadays love to gain money cause they believe if they have a lot of money they have power and people will like them more. But being liked for your money and not your personality is not a good thing, cause so many people that you call friends would use you.
Something that reminds me of the "Fire" is money. Almost everyone will do anything for money. Money also gives you power. With the more money that you have the more things you can purchased. On TV how you can make more money, or who wants to be a millionaire. Everything is about money. In the casinos its all about winning money and losing it as well. That's why I think money is just like the Archangels Fire.

There are many things that remind me of the Fire, but the biggest one is the cure for cancer. Many people become sick and die from cancer. But with the recipe to cure cancer, there wouldn't be as much pain, and no one would die. This would also create happiness in the world.

Something in our world today that reminds me of the fire is money. Money is a big thing because a lot of people want to have lots of it while there are people who only have a little and are happy with it. When people want more money they end up selling drugs or robbing places so that they can get more money. The more money they have the more money they want. I think that money makes people feel important and above the law. This is why I think that money in our world is just like the fire in The Blackthorn Key.

ReplyDeleteI believe that in our world today everyone wants more money. I think that with lots of money people believe that they can do anything they want. I feel like people want lots of money so they can buy bigger and better things then others have. When people have more money they tend to act superior to others. I can see people today using their money to gain power. People tend to listen to those with more money because they believe that it makes them smarter and better off. If I had a lot of money I would buy more things for my gaming computer. They say money does not buy happiness, but it would make me very happy.

ReplyDeleteOne thing that is like the Archangel's fire in our day and age is fame. Everybody wants to be famous in one way or another. People probably want to be famous so they can meet someone, have lots of fans, or so they can do a specific job full time ex. YouTube. Another thing that's like the Archangels fire is money. Some people want money because they think it will bring happiness. Others want money because they strait up need it.
The last thing that I was going to originally put on this list was the nuke. The only reason I'm not is because I've thought about it and it only has one thing in common with the fire, power. Not everybody wants that power though and most nations already have it. Also The only country I think is currently trying to get its power is North Korea.
One example of something similar to the fire in today's time is money. Money is a big problem. It's a problem because theirs people who have a lot, people who want to have a lot, people a little and are happy with it, and people who don't have any. And sometimes those people who have little to none money get mad, then more people get mad, and then everybody gets mad. Money is like cookies and milk, the more you have the more you want, much like power in the book. This is why Money is similar to the fire in The Blackthorn Key.

Something in the world today that resembles the Archangel’s Fire is YouTube. In the Book, everyone wants the Archangel’s Fire to make them very powerful. On YouTube everyone wants the most views on their video to become famous. Everybody tries to “Have the best recipe” and have the most views on their YouTube video. In reality however, YouTube was intended to entertain the world. Now it seems like a competition to see who can get the most “views.” This is something that I think resembles the Archangel’s Fire.
One example I can think of is Military power. Especially during this time where there are wars going on everywhere countries want the strongest military they can. I feel this can be related to the fire because if you have the fire you are invincible. In our world if you have the strongest military power and weapons you are invincible and nothing can stop you. There are many things that can be related to the Fire in our world. I feel like Military power is one of the most relatable.

In the book it says that some people want the fire to make the world a better place. but if people have little money they try things to rise up again but they often get mad and then everyone gets mad.

ReplyDeleteFor my example of the fire is in Percy Jackson and the lightning Thief. Zeus's bolt (The fire) is lost. Percy Jackson the Demi-god (Christopher) has to find it before Luke (Villan) do. When Percy finds the bolt he has to run for his life from Luke or else he'll get killed. Same as Christopher when he figures out where the fire is. He has to run from Wat or else he'll die.
An example of the fire in the Blackthorn Key is technology everyone want to control and know how technology works but the difference is how certain people would use the technology like using it for good or bad. The bad people would use it for hacking or accessing thing their not supposed to know like government information. Even if it's as little as internet scams it's still bad. But if used for good technology can make th impossible possible like curing cancer or building Machines that could speed up construction. In the 21st century a lot of things we do are controlled or uses technology and just like the fire in the Blackthorn Key it's a huge power and everyone wants it but for different reasons.

ReplyDeleteI definitely think that the Archangel’s Fire of today is money. If you have a lot of money, you can practically do anything you want. Some people use their riches for good, and some others use it for bad. I thought of money as being the nowadays Fire because the Fire gave people so much power. Money is just the same, the more riches you have, the more powerful you become. Everybody wants more money, just like everybody wanted the recipe for the Archangel’s Fire.

ReplyDeleteThere are people who intended to use the Fire to "make the world a better place." I think this compares to how money works in our world. On some level or another, like the Fire, everyone is striving to get more. Money makes our world go round. However, money also comes with a certain level of power. And like an power, in the wrong hands, it can be used for evil. This is like how the Fire was going to be used to overthrow the king and his court; an evil made by something that many people strove for.
There are people in the world who intended to use the fire for good. One way I think people can use the fire is by giving money to the world. But, I think others would use it to make the world the way that they wanted it. I think that people who wanted to make the world a better place by giving it money and other needs. Would eventually go crazy since they have all of the power and use it on themselves. All in all, I think that money is the most things that people would want the fire for.

Someone who has great fame is also able to be very powerful towards people who don't have fame. Some people who have the gift of fame can be very selfish and bossy towards people who are not famous. Most people only like to be famous for the money that they can make. Not all famous people are selfish, some can be very inspiring, which is also very powerful towards people who are not famous. In my opinion, fame is something that reminds me of the Fire in the book, "The Blackthorn Key", because it can be very powerful towards people.

If you get enough of it then you have power over those with less. The fire is the same way. If you get the fire, you have a kind of power over the rest of the world. Another similarity between the Fire and possessions are that they can and are stolen. The villains of The Blackthorn Key had a goal to steal the fire and use it for evil. In our world, there are possessions that are stolen for money. The Fire reminds me a lot of money in our world.

ReplyDeleteThe Blackthorn Key gives backstory that there was a fight on the recipe to make "Fire" and how it could be used to make the world a better place. Today, everything revolves around money. If you don't have money, you are weak and vulnerable but if you have a lot you are very powerful. The "Fire" is very similar to our money. With the "Fire", you have all the power and control and without you are fragile and have no way to protect yourself. In conclusion, from the beginning of time and now we have all been craving something to make ourselves powerful above others.

ReplyDeleteSomething I see as the Archangel’s Fire of today's world is money. In Christopher’s time, whoever possessed the Archangel’s Fire had a lot of power over other people. Just like today, where wealthy people tend to have more power over those below them. Now, everyone has an obsession over who can have the most money and spend it on the most expensive things. Just like the Fire, money can be used for bad or for good, especially when there is a lot of it. It all just depends on who is deciding what to do with it.
In the book, everybody wants power in the world today. Everybody wants military power. THey think that milatary power is the key to winning over the world. People think having military will make you the best. So everybody wants to be big milatary.
